12.2.27. Smooth Entries and Exits

In some cases, it's beneficial to have a smooth entry and/or exit to achieve the best surface finish, particularly for contour fine cuts. The Smooth Entry/Exit function in SimCam adds arcs to your contours, creating the smoothest possible entry and exit.

Consider this fine cut that starts and ends at the red dot:

In this situation, the tool will position itself in the air above the starting point and go straight down in Z to the contour depth.

Let's add a smooth entry to modify this:

In the SimCam menu, click [More] – [Smooth Entry/Exit] – [Entry].

Click anywhere on the contour.

Move the mouse cursor to a new starting position and make a final click.

Now, let's add a smooth exit as well:

Click [More] – [Smooth Entry/Exit] – [Exit]

Click anywhere on the contour.

Move the mouse cursor to a new end position and make a final click.

This process creates a smoother entry and exit for the toolpath, potentially improving the surface finish of the workpiece.
