12.2.35. Import and Export

DXF Files

The File menu allows you to import and export DXF files.
To import a sample DXF file, navigate to the Samples\DXF file folder, where you'll find lathe.dxf and mill.dxf files. Click File - Import/Export - Import DXF and select the one for milling.
We can now easily make a contour of the guides by clicking [CAM] - [Contour] in the context menu.
Conversely, you can export SimCam contours to a DXF file if you want to create a drawing in another CAD program from a SimCam document. When selecting the Export function, you'll be prompted to choose your preferred DXF format.
If you're unsure which format is compatible with your CAD software, try each one in the list until you find the one that works.
Please note that dimensions are not supported by the import and export functions. Add them after you have imported or exported a file.

SVG Files

You can also import SVG files from the same menu. Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is an XML-based vector image format for two-dimensional graphics, and many of these files can be found for free online. A common use of these files is to apply the [Engrave] function in the CAM context menu.
Additionally, you can import existing SimCam files into your current document.
The last function in the menu allows you to export simulated toolpaths to a DXF file.
